For you to become a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will need to get training from one of the bodies and successful pass the  test that is given at the end of the training. After the training, you can work in any kind of health care facility successfully.

So what does a nursing  assistant do? You will be there to help doctors and nursing in the everyday care of patients. Patients will need your help to do simple things like bathing, eating and  nurses will need your help to take vital signs as well as give patients their drugs. This can be a great stepping stone into a career in the medical field, giving you the  training and the exposure you need.

In every state, there are many institutions offering training for those interested in becoming nursing assistants. The training differs and  your choice of institution should be based on your ultimate career goals. There is room to specialize as you go along but to expect to go through training that  involves theory classes as well as practical sessions.

The most common employers of nursing assistants are obviously hospitals. Small health care facilities and  well as health care homes are also great employers. It is now very common to find nursing assistants doing house call or taking care of patients in their homes.  Many patients prefer to recuperate at home and not in the hospital environment.

Each  institution has its own special way of training and each state has its own rules and regulations. That said, there are certain common things that you will learn  regardless of where you get your training. Expect to learn the basics when it comes to health care as well as taking care of patients. Information on nutrition,  handling special needs patients and administration are usually part of the training. What you learn will be experienced in the practical sessions.

Before selecting your training school, you need to do a lot of research. Many institutions have an option  between class training and online training and you can choose to select either or work with both. Many times it will depend on your availability as well as your  budget. Take time to weigh your options before making a final choice. The length of the training also varies from a few weeks to a number of months.

Online, you will find many training courses and these work very well for distance learners. Online CNA courses can also be a much cheaper options. However,  going for sessions in an institution is a much better option because you get practical experience along with the theory. Interaction with the trainers and trainees is  also another great advantage.

Do not make the mistake of getting into this career without doing your research. This is a great career but it takes a lot of sacrifice, patience and  passion especially when you have to work long hours and deal with rather traumatic situations. You need to know what you are getting yourself into. Other than  that, it is indeed a great career with a lot of growth options and your will enjoy helping others who are in need.
